Results You Can Expect
Here are the results can you expect from hiring Pirate Book Takedown.
I’m not going to give too much detail about where we have success and failure in removing copyrighted intellectual property (IP) as I don’t want this to be a resource for pirates to find safe harbours for their illegal dealings.
1. Social media.
Social media is often used to advertise the illegal sale or exchange of intellectual property (IP). We have removed links advertising the illegal sale/exchange of IP in over 95% of instances. Some social media companies (major ones you know & use) are 100% responsive to our takedown request.
Those who would sell your IP have also taken to creating social media accounts impersonating you. They use these as a sales funnel for profiting off your IP. We have seen this most extensively on Instagram and have a 100% success rate to date in removing impersonation accounts.
2. File sharing and cloud hosting.
The big names such as Mega and Dropbox will always honour a legal takedown request. We have a 100% success rate with them. With the lesser known cloud storage and sharing sites our results vary. Some work with us, some don’t.
3. Google, YouTube, Blogspot, Google Drive and other Google properties.
Google has an excellent record enforcing legitimate takedown requests. Our success rate with Google properties is 100%.
4. Google search engine index.
We can have Google search results leading to pirated versions of your IP removed from the Google search index. Of links that we have submitted for removal over 85% have been removed.
Over time more links to your pirated IP will be swept up into the Google index. Thus this is a service best performed on a routine basis. How often depends on how prevalent the pirating of your IP is.
5. Email accounts.
We have gotten email accounts deactivated after providing evidence to the email provider that the account is being used to sell or distribute copyrighted IP without the authorization of the copyright holder.
6. Bulletin boards and torrent sites.
The odds of getting your IP removed from these types of sites is very small. We have done it, but not often. 10% success rate at best.
7. WordPress.com, WIX, and similar website providers.
100% success rate.
8. Commercial sites such as Amazon, eBay, and self-publishing companies.
We’ve found pirated digital IP being sold on eBay. We’ve found printed copies of ebooks being sold through self-publishing sites. We’ve found knock off variations of books being sold on Amazon. To date we have a 100% success rate getting pirated IP removed from these type of sites.
9. Individually owned sites selling or distributing copyrighted IP without authorization.
These are websites that have been set up by a person exclusively for the purpose of selling digital copies of other creators IP.
We conducted an evaluation of our effectiveness with these type of pirate sites between the dates of 15 July 2022 to 10 March 2023. Our rate of success with having all pages/links on a given site which was selling our client’s IP removed stands at 53%.
